Fighting Perceptions
August 04, 2006
For the last couple days, I’ve followed the discussion on Ed Brayton’s blog, Dispatches From the Culture Wars, concerning his post Anti-Gay Bigotry in Action. The harsh, unthinking treatment received by the Knight family, as suggested by Ed, seems insane. But that is not my reason for sharing this post with you.
I want to highlight for you how little time it took for some commenters to blame Christians for the sorry conduct of a few people in the Knight family’s hometown. These comments, unfortunately, are indicative of the poor perception of Christians, and hence Christianity, not uncommonly found in the broader culture. My question for you and me is: what are we doing to contribute to or break down that poor perception?
